Logar Valley – alpine silence and waterfalls of Slovenia

Logar Valley is one of those places that stays with you forever. Emerald meadows, dramatic waterfalls, and the soothing presence of the Alps make every step a journey into pure nature.

A valley that whispers

Logar Valley (Slovene: Logarska Dolina) is one of the most beautiful corners of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Surrounded by steep alpine walls, it enchants with its views and the rare silence that can’t be found in crowded resorts. Here, you hear only the Savinja River, the wind, and your thoughts.

Waterfalls and wild beauty

The valley’s main natural attraction is the Rinka Waterfall, falling from 90 meters – an essential stop on any hike. Above the waterfall lies the Orlovo Gnezdo hut, perfect for a coffee with a view. Trails also lead to smaller waterfalls and scenic lookouts like Okrešelj.

A bit of history

The valley has been used by shepherds since the 13th century. In medieval times, it was a smuggling route between alpine valleys. Today, it is part of the protected Logar Landscape Park and a model for sustainable tourism in Slovenia.

How to get there?

The easiest way is by car from Ljubljana – the drive takes around 2.5 hours. The valley is open year-round, but it’s especially stunning in spring and autumn. In winter, some parts may be closed due to snow, so check conditions. In summer, buses run from nearby Solčava.

Parking and local snacks

There’s a paid parking lot at the entrance (around €10/day). In high season, you’ll find small stands with local goods: cheese, dried beef, homemade bread, and honey from nearby farms — perfect for a quick snack before your hike.

Traveling by camper? Follow the rules

Wild camping and overnight stays in campers are officially not allowed. After the season (after September 15), locals are often more lenient, as long as you respect the peace, leave no trash, and don’t unfold your entire setup (awnings, grills, etc.).

Curiosities and local legends

Locals say that near the Palenk waterfall, you might hear the song of the White Lady at night — the spirit of a shepherdess who once protected the valley from greedy merchants. According to legend, those who hear her melody are destined to return here one day.

Logar Valley is not just a landscape – it’s a story of harmony between man and mountain.
